How to Save Important Messages

When you use your Yahoo email account as your primary email address, you’ll find that your inbox gets full pretty quickly and it’s easy to lose track of your most important messages. Luckily, Yahoo has two different ways of saving and keeping track of your important emails, and we’ll show you how to use both methods below, step by step. The first method is called “Archive”, and the second is “Star”.

For both the archive and the star procedure, your first step is to login to your Yahoo account and go to Yahoo Mail main screen by clicking on the “Mail” icon in the upper right-hand corner of the homepage.

How to archive emails in Yahoo

The “Archive” in your Yahoo Mail is like a huge digital filing cabinet where you can store any messages you want to hold onto, just in case, but don’t want them to be cluttering up your inbox all the time. Any message that is archived will not appear in your inbox with your regular email anymore, but will be safely tucked away and accessible anytime you need it by going to the “Archive” section in the side navigation bar in your email.

There are a few different ways you can archive messages in Yahoo Mail, but they are all easy and intuitive and they all have the exact same result: storing a message (or messages) safely in your Archive folder and removing them from your Inbox.

The first way is to archive a single message from your Inbox (or any folder you’ve created in your Yahoo Mail). All you have to do is click on the box next to the message you want to archive, and once it is selected, click on the “Archive” button we mentioned earlier.

You can also archive multiple messages simultaneously. Just check off multiple emails, whichever ones are important and you want to save for later, and then click the “Archive” button just like before.

The last way to archive an important email is directly from the message. Let’s say you get a new message, and as you read it, you realize that you want to save it in the archive in case you need to reference it later. You can save the email by simply clicking on the same “Archive” button while you have the message open.

After you have archived an email or several emails, you’ll get a notification from Yahoo letting you know you did it correctly and giving you the option to undo it if you want. Also note that the email I archived no longer appears in my Inbox. If I want to read it later, I will need to go to the Archive folder.

How to star messages in Yahoo Mail

The second way to save important emails in Yahoo works a little differently than archiving. Sometimes important messages are important because they require somewhat immediate or urgent attention. In this case, moving them to the archive could be a bad move – out of sight, out of mind. Archiving is better suited for messages with important information that you might need to reference at some point in the future, but nothing will happen if you forget about its existence until you need it.

Starring is a better option for saving and highlighting important messages without removing them from your inbox. As the name implies, these messages get marked with a star symbol, so you can find them more easily even if you have tons of emails in your inbox, and you can see at a glance what is urgent and what is not.

As with archiving, there are a few different ways you can go about starring an important message in Yahoo Mail, but they all have the same result: your message will be found in your inbox just like before, but will now have a yellow star next to it as a constant visual reminder of its importance and a sort of bookmark to help you locate it easily.

The first way to star an email in Yahoo is very similar to archiving. First, check the box of the message or messages you want to star. Then, click on the “More…” option in the top menu, and select “Star” from the dropdown menu.

See how your message still appears in your inbox as it normally would, but now it has a star that makes it easier to see?

The second way is even easier. Find the important email you want to save, and hover your cursor over it. Some symbols will appear in black between the sender and the subject: a magnifying glass, a trash can, and a star. To star the message, all you have to do is click on the star. Easy!

The last way is to star an important email as you read it, just like we did with archiving. While you have a message open, if you decide it’s urgent and you want to mark it with a star, just click on the same “More…” button and select “Star” exactly as you did in the first method.

And that’s all there is to saving important messages in Yahoo Mail. If you have an email with information you might want to access in the future, but don’t need to see every day in your regular email, archiving is your solution. For emails that require urgent attention but might get lost in a crowded inbox, starring is the answer to your problem. And luckily for all of us, archiving and starring important emails in Yahoo couldn’t be easier.

How to Add and Delete Yahoo Contacts

One of the great things about email platforms like Yahoo Mail is that you don’t have to keep track of all of your contacts’ information by memory or in an agenda – you can store all the information you need right in your email! This makes it easy to communicate with everyone via email, but can also come in handy with remembering birthdays, phone numbers and other useful information.

Yahoo mail has a couple different ways you can add contacts, so let’s look at how to add Yahoo contacts, step by step.

How to add new contacts in Yahoo

As always, make sure you are logged into your Yahoo account and enter your inbox by clicking the “Mail” icon on the Yahoo homepage. Near the upper right-hand corner of the screen, you’ll see a series of icons. The second icon from the left looks like a little agenda or address book – click on that icon to go to the “Contacts” page.

Once you are on the Contacts page, you’ll be able to see all of the contacts you have added to your Yahoo account.

Even if you haven’t added any contacts, you might have some contacts in your list for any email addresses you sent a message to with your Yahoo email.

The first way we’ll use to add contacts is the “old-fashioned” way: a basic, manual addition of a new contact. Find the button above the left sidebar that says “New Contact” and click on it.

This will take you to the form where you can enter information about your new contact.

You can fill in as much or as little information as you like. Typically, you would want at least a first and last name and email address.

Scroll down and enter as much information as you want, and when you’re finished, click “Save”.

Now when you’re on your Contacts main page, you should see your new contact appear in the list.

How to import contacts to Yahoo

The second way to add contacts in Yahoo is a bulk import from another account you already have.

For example, if you have your important contacts in a Gmail account, you could import them from Gmail into Yahoo.

In this example, I’m going to import contacts from my Facebook account, but you would follow the same basic steps for any import. Start by clicking the “Import” button next to the account you want to use for your contacts.

This will open a new window asking you to sign in and for permission to let Yahoo access your contacts (or “friends list”, in the case of a Facbeook import). Click “Accept” or sign in, depending on the account you are using, to start the contacts import into Yahoo Mail.

You’ll see that Yahoo is now importing all of the contacts from your other account to your Yahoo contacts list. The time this takes will depend on how many contacts you have, but shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.

When the import is finished, all of the contacts from your other account will appear in your “All Contacts” list in Yahoo. Easy!

How to delete Yahoo contacts

Sometimes it’s also necessary to delete contacts. Whether the email address is out of date or you simply don’t need to keep in touch with a person any longer, deleting a contact in Yahoo Mail is simple. Here’s how:

Scroll through your contacts list until you find the contact you wish to delete.

Click on the contact to open up their details/options. You’ll see that the box next to their name in the list is now checked off (meaning they are selected in the list). Click on the “Delete” button in the options menu bar.

If you really want to delete this contact and all of their information, click “Delete” again in the confirmation window that will pop up.

You can also do a bulk contact delete by selecting multiple names from your contacts list and choosing the delete option in the right-hand window. You can select all contacts in view (up to 500) by selecting the empty check box above the actual contacts list. If you have more than 500 contacts to delete, just repeat this step in increments of 500 until you’re done.

How to Set Up Mail Forwarding

It seems like everyone has at least three different email accounts these days, and often they are on different email platforms. I personally have Gmail and Hotmail email addresses in addition to my Yahoo account, and sometimes it is a challenge to keep track of everything. This is where automatic email forwarding can be a life saver. When you enable email forwarding in your Yahoo account, all of the messages you receive to your Yahoo email address will be automatically redirected to another email address that you specify, which could be on any other provider, and a copy will be stored in your Yahoo inbox too, just in case.

Setting up mail forwarding in Yahoo mail can be a little tricky if you don’t know what you’re looking for, so we’ve put together a step by step guide (with pictures!) to guide you through the process.

Enable automatic mail forwarding in Yahoo

As usual, you’ll want to sign into your Yahoo account and go to your inbox by clicking on the “Mail” icon on

Once you’re in your email inbox, find the “cog” icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, next to your name.

Hover your mouse over this icon, and a dropdown menu will appear. Click on “Settings”.

A new settings window will appear inside your main window. Go to the left sidebar and click on the option labeled “Accounts”.

The first account listed will be the Yahoo account you are currently signed into. Since this is the email address you will be forwarding messages from, this is where we need to change the settings. Click on this account to see its options.

You have lots of different options for your account, but what we want is near the bottom, so you’ll have to scroll down a bit.

When you find “Access your Yahoo Mail elsewhere”, you’re in the right place.

Mail forwarding is set to “POP” by default, which lets you read emails offline in select email platforms, like Outlook. Most people just want all their mail forwarded, though, so click on the bubble next to “Forward” to switch to the basic forwarding option.

Below the box to input your forwarding address is an option for what you want Yahoo to do with the messages it forwards to your other email account. Your options are to store a copy in your Yahoo inbox, or store a copy in your Yahoo inbox and mark it as “read”. This is a personal choice; I prefer to mark forwarded emails as “read” in my Yahoo account so I don’t end up reading the same emails twice. To change this setting, just click on the small “down” arrow in the box and click on the option that you prefer.

In the box marked “Forwarding Address”, enter the email address which you want your Yahoo emails to be sent to. Make sure you enter it correctly and that you have access to the other account, because you will be required to verify it before any mail can be forwarded. After entering your forwarding email address, click on “Verify”.

One of two things will happen depending on your browser’s settings. You may see a new tab or window open with a Yahoo sign in box – if this happens, just re-enter your password, and you’ll be taken to your “Account Information” page where you can send a verification email to your forwarding address. First, click “Verify now” next to the unverified email address, then click “Go to *other email provider*” to find the verification email, or click “Close” and “Save” and check your other email later.

What will most likely happen, however, is that your browser will block the new window from opening and you’ll see something that looks like this:

It could also be a small red “X” in your address bar, depending on what type of browser you’re using. Click on the pop-up blocked notification to allow pop-ups for this site, and the new window will open. Then, follow the steps listed above to verify the forwarding email address.

When you get to the verification email in your other account, there will be simple instructions and a link that you need to click to verify your forwarding address. Once you click the link, your forwarding address will be verified.

Any email you receive to your Yahoo account should be automatically forwarded to the other email address you just verified. If you want to double check, you can go back through the first steps to the “Accounts” page again and make sure that “Forwarding” is turned on and pointing to the email address you want.

You can turn off email forwarding at any time by going back to the “Accounts” page, selecing the “POP” option, and clicking “Save”.

How to create a folder in yahoo and use them in the best way

Probably the best and easiest way to keep your Yahoo email organized is using folders. Folders allow you to group similar emails together so that you always know where to find them, and it also keeps them from cluttering up your main inbox. Best of all, you can “train” Yahoo mail to put emails in their proper folders as soon as you receive them by using “filters”. But before you can do that, you need to learn how to create a folder in Yahoo Mail so that you have a place to put your emails!

How to make an email folder in Yahoo, step by step

As always, begin by going to the Yahoo homepage at Check to see if you are signed into your account – if you are, your name should appear in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. When you’re logged in, click on the mail icon to go to your Yahoo Mail inbox.

The left sidebar of your Yahoo email screen is how you will navigate through the different areas of your email. If you look near the bottom, there is an option that says “Folders”. If you click on it, it will drop-down a list of all the folders you have created – which right now, is none. However, if you just hover your cursor over the word “Folders”, a small folder icon with a “+” sign will pop up.

This icon is the “Create a new folder” icon. To make a new folder for your Yahoo email, click on this icon.

This will open up a small text box where you can write the name of your new folder. You can name your folder anything you want, but it’s a good idea to make your name descriptive of the kinds of emails you will be putting in the folder so that things don’t get misplaced.

I’m going to call my new folder “Receipts”, and I’ll use it to keep all of the receipts, order confirmations, and similar things from online shopping. Once you have the name of your new folder typed in, just hit the “Enter” button on your keyboard to create it.

Tadaa! You just made your first Yahoo Mail folder. You’ll get a small pop-up notification letting you know that your folder was successfully created, with a helpful link to learn how to use “Filters” to move messages into your new folder automatically. You can also see your new folder in the left sidebar.

And that’s all there is to it! You can create as many folders as you want or need in order to keep your Yahoo email nice an organized. For example, you could create a folder for work-related emails, school emails, email newsletters that you want to save and read later, recipes that you get sent to your email, or anything you like.

How to Send a Message, Video, Image and File

Now that you’ve created your Yahoo account and email address and know how to log in and out, it’s time to send an email. You can send emails to friends, family, coworkers, customer service centers, basically anyone as long as you know their email address. With your Yahoo email, you can send regular email messages, or emails with an attached file, photo or video. In this post, we’ll walk you through the process of creating and sending an email in Yahoo, plus how to attach different types of files.

How to send an email in Yahoo

To get started, login to your Yahoo account and click on the “Mail” button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to go to your inbox.

If someone has sent you an email and you want to reply to it, you can click on the message to read it and respond. But if you want to write a new email to someone, you’ll have to click on “Compose”, which is found in the upper left-hand portion of the screen.

This will take you to a blank email page where you will be able to write your email.

First, enter the email address of whoever you want to send the email to. You can enter more than one recipient at a time; just separate each email address with a comma. Make sure you enter the full email address, including the @ sign and whatever comes after it.

Next, type in a subject for your message. This isn’t required, but it’s a good way to help the recipient know whether your message is urgent or not.

Now you can write your message!

When you’re finished writing your email and don’t need to attach any files, photos or videos, you can send the message by clicking on the “Send” button at the bottom of the screen.

How to attach files in Yahoo email

If you want to attach something, however, there’s one more step before you can send your email. To attach any file, whether a document, picture or video file, click on the paperclip icon next to the “Send” button.

This will open up a file explorer so you can select a file from your computer. Simply browse the folders on your computer (e.g. desktop, documents) until you find the right file. Click the file to select it, and then click “Open”. As long as the file isn’t too large, it will attach itself to your email message.

You have a few options as to where you want to attach your file from. The default is to select a file from your computer, but what if you have a file in a Dropbox cloud storage account that you want to send? Or perhaps a photo on Flickr? You can insert files directly from either Dropbox or Flickr by clicking on the dropdown arrow next to the paperclip, and selecting where you want to find your files.

The process of attaching a picture file is the same for any other file. Click on the paperclip as before, browse the files on your computer, select the picture you want to attach, and click “Open”. Images may take a few seconds to attach if they are large or high quality.

You can attach a video file using the same steps as long as it’s not too big. If the file you want to attach is too big, you’ll get an error message with an option to learn how to send large files using Dropbox. Video files can take a while to load…

After you’ve attached the files you want and your message is finished, just click the “Send” button to send the message and any attached files, pictures or videos to the recipient’s email address. You’ll be taken back to your Yahoo inbox and will have a notification that your message was sent.
